How to: Assign a long filename.
Solution:
Make sure the application being used supports Windows 95 long filenames, and type the long filename in the 'Save As' dialog box.
Do one of the following:
1) Save the file from within an application:
a) Make sure you are using a Windows 95 application that supports long filenames.
b) With the file open, select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As...'. (The 'Save As' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: There are certain long filename standards that must be followed.
c) Select the drive on which the file is to be saved from the 'Save in' drop-down list box.
d) (Optional) In the list box, double-click the folder(s) in which the file is to be saved.
e) Type the long filename in the 'File name' box, and click 'Save'. (The file is saved with the long filename.)
2) Rename the file in Windows Explorer:
a) Open Windows Explorer.
b) Select the file you want to rename.
c) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Rename'. (A box appears around the filename.)
d) Type the new long filename, and press ENTER.
